Authentic Trinidadian Lemonade

Yes, us Trinidadians have our own twist on lemonade.

This recipe is scalable. To make larger quantities, simply double or triple the quantities of ingredients as required.

For convenience, quantities are listed using 3 methods: in the approximate size of the ingredients (eg: clove of garlic), in traditional cups, teaspoons and tablespoons and more accurately in grams (g) or millilitres (ml). Please visit the Measurements page in the Glossary for more information.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 lemons (2/3 CUP OR 150ml) Lemon Juice
  • Bitters (1/2 TSP OR 2.5ml) Angostura Bitters
  • Sugar (6 TBSP OR 90g) White Sugar
  • Water (3 1/3 CUPS OR 800ml) Filtered or Bottled Water

DIRECTIONS

  1. Squeeze the whole lemons to extract juice.
  2. Add Sugar to the water at room temperature (25 to 30 degrees Celcius) and stir to dissolve the sugar (stir for about 30 seconds).
  3. Add the lemon juice and bitters to water and sugar mixture and stir at room temperature to mix all the ingredients (stir for about 30 seconds).
  4. Pour into glass bottle and store in the refrigerator.
  5. Serve chilled.
